Where it all began
In the later part of 2021, a beloved family member of mine passed away from a serious case of cancer. Unfortunately, I was living abroad at the time and was unable to attend the funeral for my late family member. The funeral service was streamed live through an internet connection and I was able to attend, virtually, from afar.
While I sat, hundreds of miles away from my grieving family, watching the live stream – I noticed something special throughout the funeral service. Friends, family members, work colleagues, neighbours and other people who once knew my passed family member, all stood up – one by one – and shared a memory, story or tale they had previously shared with my great-uncle. You know, the types of stories or memories that influence us the most about a person we know. Stories about fishing/hunting trips spent together or memories of peaceful conversations they will always remember. The pieces and parts of my great-uncle, which left the most impact on those speaking of him at his funeral service.
Those stories, memories and tales are the most precious parts of any relationship we have with our loved ones and, sadly, once they pass away, those pieces may be forgotten over time.
